Md. Historical Society Photographs

Starting in circa 1850, the Maryland Historical Society (MdHS) photographic collection contains well over one million items including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, cartes-de-visite, albumen prints, salted paper prints, acetate negatives, and more. Photographs are part of MdHS's Special Collections Department, H. Furlong Baldwin Library.

Digital reproductions of originals are property of MdHS. For image reproduction and permission info: MdHS Imaging Services. Feel free to share these images with proper citation.

Hansa Haus (built in 1912) once housed the Baltimore offices of the North German Lloyd Steamship Company. Read about how the architecture was meant to help homesick German immigrants on the Baltimore Heritage website.
The inventory lists for the Julius Anderson Photograph Collection has been uploaded to the MdHS website! Only a few photographs from the collection have been added to Collections Online but more will be added frequently. This is definitely one of my favorite photograph collections housed at MdHS.
